“How to unlock disruptive innovation with crisis simulations” | Angel Diaz-Maroto
Twenty years ago, new products appeared in the market every year and disruptive changes in the market happened every decade. Now, new products appear in the market every month and disruptive changes in the market happen every year. We all know of players that drastically changed the rules of the game for all of the other players, such as Netflix, AirBnB, Uber and Lime. What will happen 10 years from now?
These disruptive changes in the market will happen every month and organizations will need to develop resilience. Agile won’t be enough, we’ll need to build a new level of adaptability. Even though all companies know that they can be impacted by disruptive changes in their environment, not many put enough attention on getting ready for it.
At Business Agility 2020, Angel Diaz-Maroto made the case for the role of crisis in encouraging adaptability, stating that “crisis always unlocks innovation and crisis simulation can be the right spark for your true innovation power.” His story is about how simulations can help organizations to unlock processes, informal structures, external connections, and cultural values that can allow them to confront change in a more structured, calm and successful way.
